The examinacion of Martin Taaffe sonne of Richard Taaffe of the Parish of Aghidowy in the County of Londonderry yeoman taken before vs at Colerane the 30th day of March 1653
<A> Who being duely examined saith That he is the sonn of the said Richard Taaffe & nephew vnto Lawrence Taaffe his said fathers halfe Brother That he left Aghidowy where his father dwelt tenn yeares before the Rebellion & went & dwelt vnder One William Taaffe since called Leiutenant Colonell Taaffe in the County of Tyrone That he never stirred from his farme vnder the said William Taaffe neither doth he know whether the said William Taffe ever had any Command or went abroad into Vlster And further he saith that he doth not know who begun the Irish Rebellion or any one had person who had a hand in it but that he heard of Burnings of Townes & Castles & of Murders in severall places but doth not know who committed them And that he never came into the County of Londonderry after the Rebellion begun neither ever knew or saw Paull Gault or Archy Criage whom he is charged to have murdred at Aghidowy And further this Examinante saith That he the said William Taaffe & this Examinant being robbed & plundered by Sir Phelomy roe รด Neile & his men in ffebrurary 1642 they & there families removed out of Vlster & went vnto Ballymote in Connaght & there the said William Taaffe was made Lieutenant Colonell vnto Generall Major Luke Taaffe <B> & this Examinant entred himselfe a soldier in the said William Taaffs Company And further he saith not
