The Examinacion of John Murghlan of Ballycastle in the County of Antrim Blacksmith taken before vs the day & yeare first above written
<6> Who being duely sworne & examined saith That one Garrett= Kelly the Countess of Antrims Stewart sent one Edmund รด Haggan <A> the The same Countess servant to bring him this Examinate into the house of Ballycastle to save his life; in which Castle he remained from about the third day of January 1641 for about seaven weekes after dureing which time there was a great resort vnto the same house of the Chiefe of the Irish Gentry who were then risen in Rebellion & of some Preists & friers who constantly said Masse there, to all whom, the said house & Gates were open, & free, And this Examinante further saith That vpon the sabbath day in the morneinge towards the latter end of the said Moneth of January one Thomas Robinson was murdred on the backside of the brewhouse neere the wall of the house of Ballycastle by fferragher mcKay & Patrick <B> McAhoy, whom this Examinante see very oftentimes, & soone after amongst other the Irish in the said house of Ballycastle; And that he see the said fferragher mcKay weare the said Thomas Robinsons dublett, whom he & the said Patricke confessed they had murdred, & whose dublett the said fferagher confessed it to be, & that the said Patricke McAhoy confessed he had bestowed the said Thomas Robinsons breeches upon his whore <D> to make her a wastcoate which Wastcoast this Examinante afterwards saw vpon his whore, And he further saith That he hath credibly heard that Dwaltagh McAllester who he see vsually frequent the house of Ballycastle, did force out of the same house one Jennett Speire whom he murdred on the Backside of the Stable neere the Castle wall, And further he saith not
