The examinacion of John Campbell of Billy Parish yeoman taken before vs the first day of March 1652 O
<24> Who being duely sworne & examined saith That he was neere Portnaw at the time that the Murder was committed by the Irish vpon the Brittish soldiers there & that he in the morneing after the Murder seeing the houses set on fire in the Countrey he this Examinante hid himselfe in a bush vntill one Donnell grome mcDonnell of Magheresharkin parish <A> passing by in the same morneing with two men & spying this Examinante in the bush called him & blamed him for comeing abroad from his house & tooke this Examinante into his service to keepe his Cowes, for one quarter of a yeare That he heard the said Donnell Gorme McDonnell & other of the Irish [ ] talke & say That James McColl McDonnell Alexander McDonnell Tirlagh oge ô Cahan Henry ô Haggan & John Mortimer were present & acting in the said Murder of the Brittish soldiers at Portnaw vpon the second of January 1641 And further he saith That the said Donnell gorme mcDonnell was often from home dureing <B> his this Examinants service with him & that he beleives & some people told him that all such times he was with the Irish Army then in the feilds or about Colerane And further he saith not
