<46:> Who being duely sworne & examined saith That at the beginning of the Irish Rebellion her husband & selfe dwelt at Desartoghill neere Garvagh in the County of Londonderry That about the eleaveth of December 1641 A Brittish Garrison at Garvagh vpon Ravelins Hill engaged with the Irish consisting of 1800: men then risen in Rebellion & invadeing that part of the Countrey where the Brittish consisting of about two or three hundred men were all or most of them murdred That in the evening of the same day after the said fight was done one William Taaffe <A> now called lieutenant Colonell Taaffe with Rory ballagh รด Cahan (since) killed in his Rebellion) & one other came vnto this Examinantes house being vnder the Hill where the said fight was And the said William Taaffe asked this Examinant if she was alive who answered she was, but knew not know long she should be And he the said William Taaffe wished this Examinante to gett a Brackan about her, lest she should be killed & demaunded of her the Key of the Church of Desartoghill close by her house alleadgeing there were some English fled into the Church & hidd there To whom this Examinante answered she had not the key & soe he & those with him departed And further he saith not
