The examinacion of Jane Todd the Relict of John Hilhouse & now wife of Humfrey Murriell of the Grange of Killdallacke in the County of Londonderry taken before vs the 18th day of March 1652
<57:> Who being duely sworne & examined saith That about the twentith of December in the yeare 1641 the Irish then risen in Rebellion defeated & killed a party of the Brittish which garrisoned at Garvagh & that the same night after the Murder & defeat there, one Rory Duffe McCormacke & his brothers Art & Edmund McCormacke with <A> about 30: or forty men about 12: of the Clocke at night came vnto the house of the said John Hilhouse this Examinants late husband at Gortecavan in Dunboe parish in the County of Londonderry with a shout & Cry & sett fire vpon the house this Examinante & her said Husband John Hilhouse & their six Children & one William Tannohill & their servants being there in the house. That vpon the shout the servants fled out & that her said late husband John Hilhouse William Tannahill & her maid an English woeman & her said Children staid in the house & defended it vntill they were forced to Leave it for smoake the house being sett on fyre as aforesaid. That assonne as her said late husband was gone out of the house with his sword in his hand & the said William Tannohill & her selfe & her mayd & six Children; The said Rory Duffe McCormacke & his said brothers & followers which were their kinsmen slashed downe & murdred her said late husband & the said William Tannohill & stript this Examinante & wounded her soe as they left her for dead, but afterwards reviueing she escaped vnto Colerane together with her said Maide & Children And further she saith that the said Rory
