The examination of Donell McGillmurtin now Liueing at Newry taken the 6th of May: 1653
Who saith that hee lived neere Temple Patricke when this Rebellion began: and was a souldier vnder Mr Vpton and being vppon the watch: on night the guarde being Commanded by one Leiutenant John Garnon: this Leiutenant Comes to the examinent & severall others, and Comanded them to bee very dilligent & that hee would goe the rownd: as farr as Rickcammar: but did <A> not returne againe to the guarde that Night, but in the morneing severall of the Souldiers which went wit{h} this Lieutennant Returned with theire burden of cloathes: w{hich} they had taken from the people they murdered: the nam{es} of the Souldiers which acted this busseness: are Hugh Cranford: John: Cranford: Andrew Cranford: yong Robert Cranford: & Andrew ffargesson Nedde: Johnston The examinent vewing the Cloathes: hee knew his mothers: Coate and her Bracken: & his sisters Bracken: & the cloathes of one Bryan: O Moylon & his wifes, & one Rore McCarnes: cloathes: with Seuerall others vpon sight whereof the examinant went to the Sergeant Comanding the guarde, called Sergeant Wondrum & asked him what the reason was that those cloathes ware taken by the souldiers hee answeared him that the parties which ought them ware kild & that soe the examinent & the rest of the Irerish would bee vnless: they looked well to themselfes (which hee was sory forr) Not long after the examinent with seuerall others ware Carried to the guard & dissarmed & this Lieutenant John Garvon sent for a firelocke to shoote them presently: but hee was diswaded by Mr Vpton: who passed his word: to Carry them to Carrickuergus; and as they went they passed Through a village called CBalle: Martin where they the found all theire friends murdered: to the Number of Twentie ffive men women & Children which when Mr Vpton did see hee wept & wisht the examinent & his Brother to shift for themselfes for hee could not seaue them & the examinent saith that one Capten Bryan Mullhalland who was then a seruant to the said Mr Vpton knows this to bee truth & further saith not/
