An Abstract of certaine murthers comitted vpon the Brittish protestants since the begining of the late Rebellion in the Province of Munster
<Com Tipperary> It appeeres by the examination of Marcus Taylor of Clekiele in the said <n> County yeoman. That Phillip o Dwire of Dondrum in the said County gent with his forces, haueing entred the Cittie of Cashell aboute the first of January 1641, he the said Phillipp then & there stripped the Archbishopps wife, & his daughter together with a hundred protestants more yonge & ould, & that presentely after 13 of the said protestants were murthered in the streetes, namely William Beane of Cashell Inkeeper, Mr Leinzy clerke, & another minister, Rich Lane of Cashell aforesaid shoomaker, Thomas Carleton of the same sadler, Mr Carr schoolemaster, William Merefield of the same yeoman, & Katherin his wife, & she being bigg with child, one of the said Phillipp o Dwires men (after she was knocked downe) with his skine ripped vp her belly, & the childs hand first came <o> out, & moued it too & froe before his life parted, this the said deponent sawe being then at Cashell. He further deposed that aboute the first of March 1641 Jane Crafford the wife of George Crafford of Gouldenbridge gent, comeing from thence & intending to goe to some of the English garrissons in the County of Corke, was assaulted at a place called Bansagh in the said County, by one Donogh o Callaghane of the same yeoman, who most barbarously murthered the said Jane being heauy with child, giueing her sundry mortall wounds in her belly, by force wherof the child dropped out of her wombe gasping.
<Com Tipperary> It apperes by the examination of John Rogers late of the <p> Towne & parish of Turlis in the said County shoomaker, among other thinges. That aboute the Later end of december 1641 one John Nutell, of the same shoomaker, & one Jeffrey (his surname he knoweth not) both english protestants were murthered heard by Archerstowne in the said County by Theobald Purcell alias Baron of Loghma & his company It apperes further by his said examination, that aboute the <q> same time one Mr Banister a preacher, & Thomas Winsmore of Rathelty in the said County ffeltmaker, were both of them murthered goeing together in company from Archerston

<r> aforesaid to Cashell, this was don by Phillip o Dwire of Kilnalger in the said County gent & his followers, the said Banister being taken by the said Company he earnestly begged of them to spare his life, answere being made that they would not in regard he was a minister, he then threwe vnto them a bagg conteining a hundred pounds or therabouts in gould & siluer, & then begged of them the second time to spare his life who likewise denyed him againe, at last he tooke out a doozen siluer spoones, & gaue them to them, but all would not doe, they begun to stripp him & seeing himselfe naked to the skinn saueing his shirte, he then started from amonge <s> them & then they pursued him ffor a Quarter of a mile & in the pursuite one of them threw a darte at him, & strooke him in one of his hams, who haueing lost much blood at lenght he fainted, & then seizinge vpon him they in a most cruell & barbarous maner murthered him cutting & hewing his body almost in peeces, & there in a most inhumane maner left him aboue ground, & would not suffer him to be buryed till the crowes & dogges did eate him vp.
<Com Tipperary> It apperes by the examination of William Hubbart late of Knocklegan in the said County gent. That aboute the first of <t> August 1642 Two & Thirtie protestants men women and children were cruelly murthered by the vndernamed persons & their followers vizt William Bourke of Dollardston in the said County Esquire, Therlagh o Bryen alias mc I Bryen of Cuonagh, Derby Ryan of Clonbricke in the said County Esquire, Miles mc Grath of Killenaliffe in the said County gent, Mortagh o Hiffernan of Lattin gent, Rich: Bourke of Ballyvaden gent with diuers others in company with them the parties murthered (amonge others) were theis to witt <v> John Coates of Tipperary yeoman, Josias Browne of Cullen of smith, Baldwin Dun of the same Taylor, William Sims of Tippera{ry} aforesaid yeoman, his wife & his daughter, Walintine Wigins of Cullen aforesaid cooper, ffaith Marrock wife to William Marrock of the same shoomaker, John Jones of the same Cooper, John Chapman of the same yeoman, Elizabeth White wife to

<Com Waterford> It apperes by the examination of William Gratrix Esquire. That <w> aboute the first of Aprill 1642 Josias Bateman of Knockmone yeoman, Henry Rippon of CapperQuin blacksmith, & Robert Dambill labourer, (English protestants,) were all of them at Dungarvan in the said County murthered by Capteine Edmond ffennell & others in company with him, he alsoe deposed that aboute the first of Maij 1642 Elizabeth the wife of Zachary Browne of CapperQuin mercer, Margrett Nancy of the same widdow, the wife of one Robert Saunders barber, Hugh Sugar of the same butcher, & one of the said Saunders daughters, Richard Sowden of the same labourer, & Thomas ffreshwater of the same labourer were all of them cruelly murthered by one Capteine Scurlocke (half e brother to the late Earle of Barrymore) in or neere CapperQuin aforesaid.
<Com Corke> It apperes by the examination of Joane Hayne late of the Leape in the barony of Carbry & County of Cork widdowe <x> That vpon May day in the morneing 1642 Murtagh mac Donell of the Leape aforesaid gent, & Cornelius mc Donnell of the same his brother, with diuers others in company with them, did the same day cruelly & in a most barbarous maner murther the vndernamed persons at Glamdore in the said County, namely Thomas Haynes (the said deponents husband) Grace Milderne widdow, John Behenny skinner, Thomas Hitchins shoomaker, Steephen Watts ffarrier, Sara Oliuer (wife to George Oliuer) Carpenter, Thomazin Cooke widdowe, one Richard (Mr Samons shepheard), <y> & one called Anthony, she further deposed that the said Thomas Haynes her husband had his braines knocked out, which accidentally fell into the deponents lapp as she sate by him, they likewise cutt his right shoulder almost cutt of, the said Behenyes head was alsoe Clowen in Twain & soe was Thomas Hitchins head, she further deposed that then & there in a most butcherly maner they gaue the said Steephen Watts foure stabbs in his belly soe that

<z> his gutts hanged out, the said Sara Oliuers head was also clowen in Two & one of her hands cutt of, & the said Thomazin Cook was likewise pittifully mangled. The deponent likewise deposed, that she her selfe had fiue wounds giuen her by the said parties, & left for dead, & one of her childrens fingers cutt of with many wounds in his body & the other child had one of his eyes thrust out, besides a deepe wound in his head but afterwards recouered, & the said Julyan Pierce receaued eleaven or Twelue wounds in her body.

<d> Hugh Dashwood, Lawrence Tristram the yonger, Mrs Batchellor, & others liueing in or neere Traly aforesaid. The said Bickford further deposed that soone after, the said parties Layed siedge against the rest of the protestants that fled to Traly Castle, & dureing the continuance of the said siedge they shot & killed theis protestants that followe vizt John Barrett, Elizabeth Batchellor the yonger, Michell Vny, [ ] , Thomas Streetes wife, Edward Hely, Thomas Corbin, Katherin Bickford, Robert Cranfield, Thomas Hibbotts, Charles Bastable the yonger, George Dods wife, Elizabeth Tinby, John Tinby Bennett Sheeres, ffrancis Kurlis, & Richard Harrolds daughter, Besides all the protestants heerevnder written perished & dyed yong & ould through the cruelty & extremity of the said besiedgers, most wherof were neuer admitted to haue any christian buriall, buryed onely in or neere the said Castle walls vizt

<Com Clare> It apperes by the examination of John Ward late of <g> Tromroe in the County of Clare gent. That aboute Candlemas 1641 Edmond o fflaherty of Erconaght in the County of Galway gent & others of that Septe, manned some boates there, & from thence came to Tromroe aforesaid, & then accompanyed with Teige Roe o Bryen Sir Donnell o Bryens sonn, Rickard ffitz Patricke & seuerall others, assaulted the Castle of Tromroe aforesaid, & there in a most inhuman & barbarous maner murthered the deponents ffather, Peeter Ward of the same gent, Alce Ward his <h> wife, & George Ward the Deponents brother, & afterwards then stripped them & threw them into a ditch neere the said Castle, whose corpes soone after by directions from Donnell o Bryen of Dwogh in the said County Esquire, were remoued to the nexte parish Church of Kilmurry, & there interred, but soone after they were digged vpp by Donnell mc Scanlane the mass=prest of the said parish & buryed without the precincts of the Church & Churchyard.
<Com Galway> It apperes by the examination of Mable Byrin late of Castlebarr <i> in the County of Mayo spinster, That aboute the begining of the late rebellion one Mr Barnet, Mr Corbet, & Mr Bucanan, ministers with fiftie other men women & children or thereabouts, were cruelly murthered at the bridge of Shrowle in the said County, as they were comeing to the fforte of Galway, the said murther was comitted by one Edmond Bourke gent, liueing hard by Shrowle aforesaid
