Thomas Durant of Affamucky in the parrish of Castle Comer, and parrish of Kilkenny duly sworne & examined sayth That about the later end of November 1641 this deponent was robbed of his goodes worth 190 li. to the values and rates respective to them annexed by the parties and persons then in Rebellion & open action whose names are specified hereafter vizt In Cowes & horses worth C li. In hay xx li. I n howshold stuff 40 li. In debt s by persons disabled by the Rebellion xxx li. The Rebells that robbed him were in number about 200 men, Most vnknowne (by name) to this Deponent, All that he welknew were Richard Brenan of Castle Comer (one of that wicked Crew) and the sister of Richard Butler of Aghatabirt in the County of Kilkenny (pretender of a tytle to Castle Comer) Whoe did make cheife of the best goodes that were soe taken, & that best pleased her; Att which time one Robert Brian was robbed of xxty Cowes 4r horses and sundry other goodes, And all thenglish were there and at that tyme soe delt with by the said Company of Rebells, Whoe stripped them of their apparrell, shirts shooes; & head clothes of the women, & made them to stand naked and beatt them (lyke beastes) with Cudgells, & otherwise abuseing them, Bidding them away Roagues, out Roagues begone & that was not enoughe; And that they would not suffer an English Protestant to Liue amongst them &c Jur 6o Aprilis 1642 coram Johe Sterne et Will Ran: Adams:
