The Examination of Edward Murphy of Tubrid against Thomas Grace
<A> The said Examinat sayeth that the said Thomas within this fortnight or thereabouts came to Brittas more in the night time and tooke away there hence a poore englishmen as your this Examinat is enformed by seuerall credible men upon a carr and a man to driue the said garran and that he did murther him: as this Examinat finds by enquirye from Credible persons and that he was tould soe without enquiring by seuerall and sayeth that this examinat did enquire it earnestly and that he finds it certainely and and that the murthered person had but one gutt by Comon relation He sayeth that the said Grace is a wicked member and liued upon the spoyle any time this two yeares and did take from your this examinant about the 31th of July 12 sheepe a bulloccke and fiue pounds in siluer that his wife hath beene sickned by m his m abusing of her in languadge and traueling a foote after her goods and is soe yet that he and his men hath deadly wounded two of this Examinats men and sayeth that he did condemne his men for not kin killing them out right rather then they should be a trouble to theire wif wiues: and that the said Grace sayed he would burne this Examinats corne & <B> towen and that the night before he came in he attempted your petitioners towen not and that this Examinat made forced them away as they would doe more mischeife The said Examinant sayeth that the said Thomas did often declare that he would ma[ke] this examinant sensible of his owen being abroade And declar{ed} to my wife his cause was because I had armes to defend meselfe and was tould soe by one Thomas Shortall of [Kildrumey] one of this Examinats neighbours

this Examinat sayeth that the said Thomas Grace a <C> halfe a yeare past stole 2 cows from Ballylock{an} and sould them unto two men at Killagh and that your this Examinat with others was chosen in order between e the parties and that this Examinat ordered pa y ment upon those parte two men of Killagh for which and for the reasonn before mentioned the said Grace did bere spleane unto your this Examinant and did resolue to harme him to his power
