The R eexamynation of Mris: Martha Pigott, widdow the Relict of Maior Jo: Pigott of Dysert in the Queenes County taken before vs Daniel Hu chinson who haue heervnto subscrybed our names, beeinge appointed a Comittee by the High Court of Justice sittinge in Dublin the 4o ffebr: 1652
The sayd Examinant beeinge duly sworne & examyned saith, that her said husband beeinge not Contented with the Cessation of armes with the Irish Rebbells, did quitt his Comaunde with in about a quarter of a yeer after the said sessation, & which was made in the yeer <A> 1643, & shee sayth that as Concerninge the Bloody murthers done at the Dysert vpon her sayd husband, Mr Robert Pigott Brerton (& many others that are named) in shee Reffereth herselfe to her examynations formerly taken, & cheefly to that her examynation which was taken in Dublin at her first Cominge to Dublin after the murther was done <which> was about the month of October 1642 & this examinant saith that, that one Captain ffarell one and Dardis & one Kegan, (after that a a parley was beaten in the house or Castle of Dysert afforesaid) Came neer to the Grate of the doore, & promysed to this examinants husband that hee & all the people with him should haue fayer quarter ffor lyfe (but named nothinge elce) whear vpon this examinants said husband did Comand, or giue order that all within the said House should Cease shootinge, & lay downe theyr armes which was presently done [ ] accordingly

accordingly, & the Enymye alsoe did Cease shootinge, and this examinant sayth that her said husband wished & desyerd Mr Dun Barnaby Dunn (who was sent by her said husband to at the Grate) to drawe Artickles for the quarter, who sayd hee <B> would, & there vppon this examinant & her said husband went vpp the stayers into a Roome to shun the smoke & to Refresh themselues in and about an houer after this examinant & her husband heard a noyse of men Rushinge & Cominge vpp the Stayres & thear beinge some men aboue in the said Roome her said husband bade them stand to theyr armes, which they did & did keepe downe the Rebbells, by throinge Certaine Lumber on the stayers, but after the the said Rebbells had promysed & sworne to doe theyr persons noe harme, the said maior with drew the men, & permitted the the Rebbells to Come vpp, who murtherd & stripped them as in her former Examynations is sett forth And this examinant saith that one Coll: ffarall did then Comaund in chefe with the said Rebbells, her Cause of knowledge is that shee sawe him & did observe (& heere) it in theyr Camp whylest shee was in theyr hands & saith that she was in his tent, where she and heard him Giue order for sendinge her (& her children) out of the Camp to a house a myle off wheare Sir William

Sir William Gilbert was with his famelly and shee saith that shee knoweth not whether (or noe not) the sayd Coll ffarell himselfe did Giue order for the Cessation <C> or for the promyseinge of the quarter afforesayd, nor doth shee know whither (or not) the said Mr Dun had any order from her sayd husband, to open the Grate & goe out of Castle (as hee did doe) before the Artickles or Quarter weare drawen in wryteinge & further shee Butt this examinant sayth not, taken by, that at her Cominge forth naked out of the Castle, shee did see the said Coll ffarell, with in Less then a Pistoll shott of the back Gate of the said house, & this examinan t saith that shee doth beleiue (in Regard that hee the said Coll ffarell was soe neer & beeinge Comander in Cheife of the partie) that hee did Giue order to those that promysed the Quarter, & for the Cessation (off shootinge) which Continud for about an hower as afforesaid, and further shee saith not.
