The La: Butlers Letter to Mr Brian Cavenagh
Dear brother I am hartilly greaued for the troble yow are in and do Condoolle with yow as beinge one who hath felt it: and now I was this towld by brian mc williams who came from the Cowtie of Carlow that <A> they will presently apprend yow and Committe yow to the blake Castle of Laughline: yow do not know what may befall yow in it: and do thinke it the saffer way for yow to come hither where my Lo: of mowntgarrat is: whom I hope will use yow no worse then he hath used us: but he hath been earnestly pressed to take away my Life by your uncle James and Bagenall but I thanke god he reffused it: so god graunit yow may finde the same fauour at his hands: but yow must Instantly steale away this beleevinge the allmightie god to derect yow to the best and to grauntt yow fauour amongest them I rest
