The examinacion of Peter Hooper of Passage in the County of waterford gent aged about forty two yeares taken vpon oath on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning the aforesaid Peter Esmond sone & heyre to william Esmond of Johnstowne esquire
Vpon the whole matter of the Interrogatoryes the examinant saith that Imediately after the Ld Esmonds coming into the forte of Duncannon which was suddenly after the rebellyon brake forth in or about the Moneth of 9ber 1641: the aforesaid Peter came to the said forte to his vncle the Ld Esmond, & then and there receiued of the said Lord Esmond a certayne Number of musquets (but how many the deponent doth not remember (which were giuen him to defend the castle of Sladd, wherein the said Peter <m> then dwelt against the Irish) being neere to, & parte of the demeanes of the Hooke: The examinant further saith that the said Peter Esmond did about Christmas 1641: (at which time the Irish forces then in Armes lay within halfe a mile to the said forte & beseiging the same) come to the said forte to speake with the Ld Esmond, & made but little stay, & then tooke horse at the bridge of the aforesaid forte of Duncannon & thence directly went towardes the Irish forces some whereof were then within sight of the forte, & began to driue a great flocke of sheep then grasing neere the said forte) of the proper goods of Sir Arthur Loftus, hauing in his Company one James Patricke one that Accomp{a}nyed him the said Peter to, at & from the said forte And after the said Peter & James had driuen the said sheep a small distance, the Irish forces in Armes as aforesaid came into his assistance, & carryed them away out of this examinants and others sights, that from the forte beheld their said Peter & the rest their carrying away the said sheep: to which action of the said Peters & his receipt of the said musquets the deponent was present & an eye witnes and standing vpon the Counterscarfe with others veiwing the said Peter driuing away the said sheep in manner aforesaid & further saith not
