The Examination of Major Thomas Downing of Lismore in the Co: of waterford taken Nov 24 1652
This Examinant sworne saith that Catherin Downing the Examinants mother liveing at her house in Ballisaggard in the Co: of waterford, Tibbott Butler of Ruscoe in the Co: of Tiperary & his two sonnes (whose names he knoweth not) and others with the{m} comeing in a friendly maner to the said Catherins house about the time of the last siege of Lismore (the precise time whereof he knoweth not) & the said Tibbot [ ] & his said sonnes & party being entred the house as aforesaid he said to them, you villaines why do you not do your worke [ ] wherevpon they pillaged the said Catherin & her house: & that she threatning to complaine of that wrong donne her & goeing (as is supposed) to that end (as is supposed) the same day towards the E. of Castlehaven commanding at the siege of Lismore, some of the said Tibbot Butlers party fo (whose names the Examinant know{s} not) followed her, & at Balligarran in one Pepper orchard stabd & cutt her till she died: there being the{n} present William mc Cahills wife of Lismore named Anne, when the said Catherin was so pillaged after murdered as aforesaid, who did informe the this Examinant of the said particulars att he being at And further saith not
