The Examinacion of Donogh Mc Carty Cormucke Carty taken vpon oath the 10th of September 1652
Saith that he was in England in the beginning of the Rebellion, and that he serued in the parliaments side at worster, and in the yeare 43 as he best remembers,) he came into Ireland and serued <A> as quartermaster in McCarty Reaghs troope of horse, and that he was before att the seidge of Youghall, after which McCartys troope Came into Carbery & encamped neere Ballin i carrig and this Examinant with some 30 horse was sent sent by McCarty Reagh, towards Lisnekeeny, to hinder the Carrying of corne from thence to Bandon Bridge, and this Examinant saith that as they returned, they meett with some fiue English men at the, desert=church of whom 2 were kild; the minister Mr Snory & 2 more were carried to McCartys Campe at Ballinicarrig. And this Examinant saith that Owen Mc Dermond Curly with among the rest other two had quarter giuen him when he was taken; And this Examinant saith that the next day after he had brought & in the said owein Owen McDermond to McCartys Campe, he went, to Castle=moore <B> in Muskery, ffor some money; and before he this Examinant returned backe ( which was within a weeke) he the said Owen was hangd at Ballincarrig; by whose authori[ ] this Examinant cannot say; but that McCarty was there & the cheefest men of the Country, And this Examinant saith that the reason why he was hangd, was (as he heard) that they had a Law amongst them, that if any Irish man, did serue on the English party & were taken, he should be hangd; And this Examinant saith it was rumored before, that the said Owen had killed many of the Irish women & Children, this Examinant farther saith that the other two, (vizt) the minister & Ralph Cleare, were echanged.
