The Exam: of John ôg Ô Crowley, taken the viijth of September 1652
Saith that about the 2d Easter in the Rebellion, this examinant knew that a party of the garrison of Bandon-Bridge, were abroad to fetch in a prey, among whom was one John Phyps, who was taken by certaine soldiers of Sir Roger ô Shahane his troope and Committed by them to G the said John og ô Crowley who kept the said and Daniell o Colane alias Totane, who as this Examinant saith, kept him the said Phrips, for 2 or three daies, and then this examinant saith that by the Comand of McCarty Reagh, they Carried him to Manchee, and there deliuered him, vnto some that mcCarty appointed to receiue them said Phrips, And this Examinant farther saith that he heard the said Phrips was hang’d, at Knock o Cullen or thereabouts, the same day, or a litle after a litle after, And this Examinant being demanded, saith that he was no officer nor yet in any troope or Company, neither John Daniell ô Colane, when this was.And this Examinant saith, that they had, no order for the detaining of the said Phrips, other then the barre deliuery of him by Sir Roger O Shahanes men, nor yet had they Any other then a verball order from McCarty Reagh for the deliuering vp the said Phrips at the Manchee & farther saith not!
