<A> The Examinacion of Dermond Hurly aged about 24 yeares, sworne Sept. vijo 1652
Saith, that he was in Kilbritten Castle, and in the first yeere of the Rebellion, he saw one Io William Goosam an Englishman brought to Kilbrittaine Castle, by some of the ward there, who were then vnder the Comand of Bryan mc Swiny Bellogh (Deputed there gouernor there by mc Carty Reagh,) and there hanged the said Goosam was hangd, vpon a Gallowes, erected nere the said Castle: And this Examinant further saith that he saw, at or about the same time, one that named himselfe William ffullers servant) hangd vpon the same Gallowes; And this Examinant farther saith that he heard credibly reported in the Castle, that there were about two Englishmen more hanged vpon that gallowes, nere the same time, or a little after, And this examinant saith that his father being mcCarties steward, would gladly haue saued the aforesaid Goosam, for that he was an intimate friend to one Mr Holcombe, with whom the said Goosam formerly dwelt, And was very sorry that Goosam was put to death, and this Examinant farther saith that he heard that Goosam was groaning in his graue, after he was put therein, and it was reported, that some went to stabbe him therevpon to end his life, and that there was so small a quantity of earth cast vpon them, as that the dogs would probably devoure the Carcasse, And this Examinant saith that he heard credibly reported, & spoken of, when by some of the ward in the Castle Castle that some of the said ward of kilbrittaine had killed one Mr Stepny an aged gentleman in Courses Country, but particularly he remembreth not any one that had a head in that murder. <This examinant being farther demanded, whether mcCarty Reagh was then resident altogeather at Kilbrittain Castle, answereth that he was vp & downe, sometimes at Kilbrittaine & other times an with the fforces, that he had in the Country>
