The Examination of Thomas Knougher of Bandon taken the 13th of September 1652
Sayeth: That aboute the begining of the troubles he well remembers that one John fford & his sonne Roberte with their wiues & familyes were protected by Mr Teige O downy alias Carthy for some space of tyme, which he well remembers not: And this Examinantt further <A> sayeth that he this Examinant, dearmond mc daniell Oge O Leary knougher donnough o Terahan & Teige dun was by the Command of the foresaid Teige o Downy sent with the said fford a as a Convoy and the rest; as a Convoy to Gortbracke, within a myle of Castelhaven: And this Examinantt further sayeth, that fford John McTeige alias McTeige was thereabouts with a party of about fifty or of sixty men. And this Examinant further sayeth that he heard the said John fford was murthered by one William Leagh Regane & Teige oge McTeige Mcdaniel Carthy: And further sayeth, that dearmond O Leary & Teige Mcknougher, his Comrades of that Convoy had five pounds ten shillings in money & some other goods that was ffords: And further sayeth that the rest with him selfe retorned to his Master & this Examinantt lived with him vntill he died his said Master dyed: And further he sayeth his Master was angry with them that fford was killed, vntill he heard who had killed him: And further sayeth not:
