The deposicion of Dermott Nelane taken before two of the Commissioners of Reuennue at Ballinrobe on the 18 of November 1652
The examinate saith that [ ] the [ ] [ ] after the comocion in Dublin [ ] after the castle of Dublin was attempted to be surprized Dauid Dowd of Laccan, Charles Dowd & Patrick Dowd of Ballycottle they gathered together their tennaunts & servaunts <A> & armed themslues, who at the first tyme of theire insurrection enforced victuales money & provition from the Country, And that vppon the eight of January of the same yeare the said Dowds accompanied with 200 men or thereabouts armed as aforesaid [ ] broke into the [ ] windowe of the said Mr John Nowlans house and stript men women & children, the said examinate being then a servaunt in the said Nowlans house And Dauid Dowd one of the souldiers takeing vpp a servaunts child that belonged to the house, The said Dauid Dowd bad him not kill the child for he was not John Nowlans //
And further sayth that the examinate comeing to a place called Castle <B> Connor where many English & Scotch prisoners were in [ ] the said English <departing> [ ] which at there goeing [ ] Castle Connor [ ] were sett vpon [ ] by Patrick Dowd & his Company & tennaunts & [ ] aforesaid which stript the English & scotch in the said Company who were on foote they being not inter rupted by the said Dowd who was then

<C> present [ ] & further sayth that the said examinate tenants & servaunts belonging to the aforesaid Dowd toke some Ketches <which wer> on horse backe wherein were children & hurled them of from the horses back [ ] the children lyeing groveling on the ground
lastly saith that there was a scotch Carpenter Cooper slaine by the some of the said Company who liued in Killalloe vnto whose graue the examinate was brought by one William Kelly of Beleeck
And being further examined saith that the <horses which the> English did ride on were brought back<D> by Owen o Dowde & Rorie Mc Seunie who were there Convay
And Sir Robert o Hannaes horse by the <said> Captain Rorie Seunie. & further saith not the said Horses name being Sylly
