The examinacion of Richard Harte of Killm{allocke} gent taken before vs the 26th of November 16{52}
<1> The said Examinate sayeth that about the begining of ffebru{ary} 1641 a great partie of the Irish vnder the Comavnde of the L{ord} <A> of Castle Connell as they then alleadged went to the lands of Loughguerr in the Countie of Lymericke & from thence tooke away with them the Lord of Bathes studd of horses and all th{e} sheepe and other Cattle they could finde there And this deponent further saith that about the 16th of March followinge the parte of the Irish Army Comaunded { } Castle Connell as they pretended sate downe before Lou{ghguerr} & Closely besidged it And sumoned the Castle in the na{me} of Castle Connell promiseing that if the same weare Immediatly surrendred for the kings vse those within shoul{d} haue what Conditions they would desire, But this deponen{t} & Mr William Wickes being within the Castle little regarding the summons returned this answer that they weare Intr{ } by the Lord President of Munster for to keepe that Castle for the kinge and Parliaments vse by Commission, And that they would not deliuer the same vnto them as long as any of themselues did liue And the Irish notwithstanding that answer Continued the sidge & brought boats with them by which meanes they gayned the Island vpon which the Castle stood and soe Continued that Close Seedge vntill Septem{ber} following at which tyme haueing spent what store of proui{sion} they had in the Castle this deponent and Mr Weecks we{are} forced to surrender the same This deponent further sai{th} that the irish did kill during that sidge of the English three men besids foure or five women & Children wh{o} weare gathering of herbes for theire owne releefe And further saith that Castle Connell was not present at the tyme of the surrender of the Castle And that doctor Hickins Morish Bagott & Patricke Britt weare the men that subscribed the Conditions vpon { } the Castle was yealded
