<C> melaghlin reogh mcdonnogh of Ballyndoone beinge brought before me to bee examined sayeth that after the Castle of Ballynafadda was taken by the irish hee this examinant was a souldier in a foote Company Comaunded by Captain John mcdonnogh & lay in garrisson at ballinafadda where the lorde Taaffs sonns were cheife Comaunders. And vppone a night in summer tyme the first yeare of the irish rebellion (as hee remembreth) there wentt out a partey of that garrisson & others closely to the Boile beinge within three miles one of the other, and [ ] tooke a prey there & killed some people therein but this examinant sayeth hee was not there himselfe with them, nor was Comaunded thether by his officer, nor was hee able then to goe by reason of a sore legg hee then had, nor knewe of the parties goeinge to the boile vntill their returne the next morninge that hee sawe <sawe a number of [nyne] men driveinge that prey before them neere to ballinafadda, And that hee hearde they tooke it from the boile, nor doth hee knowe any of the officers or others that did effect that buisines And further sayth not
