The Examination of William O Dowd gent, now Liweing in Downeall, takne before me the 24o day of May 1653
<A> William o Dowd being of the agde of twentie fyve years or thaireabouts being examined, sayth that hee Liwed with his father att Bellinahown in the begineing of the rebellion, within the barony of Tireragh and County of Sligo: and that in regard of his yong years, att the begineing of the rebellion hee did not tak that notice of the sewerall murders commited thair, as others did, butt hee this examinant sayth that hee hard that thair was a murder committed att Shrem, and that Connor roe mcConmy and who is now in action chardge, and Colla mcSwyn who is now dead wer the speciall actors, as also this examinant sayth that thair was sewerall persons murdered at Ardneglas, and that Captain Bryan mcSwyn his souldiers wer the cheif actors, and further this examinant sayth that he hard that on William mcIonyn was hangd at Ratorleis by the Command of on Roger Mcowen McSwyn but by what authoritie the said Roger mcSwyn did hang the said William mcIonyn this examinant knoweth not. as also this examinant sayth that he hard <B> that their was a man and a chyld murdered at Donoghatrahan by command of Moreis Herbert priest or by [ ] on Walter his seruant, and another serwant whoes name he knoweth not [ ] this said murder and this examinant sayth that it is within this half year that this deponent examinant heard of the committing of this said murder; and this examinant sayth that he hard of a murder committed in tourego by Charles o Connor & Hugh o Connor or on of them, and thair souldiers but what particular persons asisted tham in the fact this examinant knoweth not and further sayth not.
