Examinacions taken before Sir william Gilberte knight and Thomas Richardsons, two of the members of the high Court of Justice sitting at dublin for and on the behalfe of the Comenwealth, by order of the same Court, the sixteenth day of April 1653.
<A> Anne Loftus of Dublin Spinster aged twenty one yeares or thereabouts, being duely sworne and examined sayth that shee was present at Tee Temple in the house of william Crofton Crofton Esquire about a fortnight before Candlemas Christmas in the first yeare of the Rebellion when one Captaine Oliver or Iriell ô Hara and Captaine John Crean and Captaine Hugh mc donogh accompanied with one Cormacke oge ô Hara and Bryan ô Hara and about two or three hundred more Irish Rebels came and beseiged the said house and continued the said seige till about Candlemas following, and then the said mr William Crofton and agreed to accept of quarter for himselfe and all that were in his house for their lyves and goods, which was faithfully promised by the said Iriell ô Hara John Crean and Hugh mcdonogh, wherevppon they entred the said house and the next morneing, contrary to their said quarter given they carried out one mr Oliphant a scottish minister, and another scottish man, and one Margarett an English woman, and hanged them all at an Ashtree neere the said house, as this Examinant then heard, And further sayth that soone after shee this Examinant being in Mr Croftons owne

Chamber in the said house heard some of the said Irish knocke rudely at the chamber dore and comanding to bring out mr Wray another s cottish minister who was then in the chamber for that they had dispatched the other, whereuppon the said mr Wray went willingly cherefullye out to them, and soone after came in againe stript starke naked, and the next day after they killed him in this examinants sight as hee with the rest that were in the house were marching toward Ballymote, whether mr Crofton had desired to goe for proteccion, and where they continued for about a quarter of a yeare and vntill they were convayed afterward to other places of safety by the parte good providence of god And further shee sayth not
