The examinacion of Jane Maxfeild widdow taken vppon oath the 30th of Decem: 1652
Who being duely sworne saith that shee with her husband Robert Maxfeild wer in Castlebarre <A> when it was surrendred to the Lord of Mayo & that shee went along with the said Engl English that wer in the said Castle towards Shrewle and saith that shee saw Sir Thibbott Burke now Lord of Mayo among the Irish partie that conveyed the said English that morning that ther murther was committed and shee saith that they lay on friday night at one Walter Burks house in the Countie of Gallway, & the next day wer carried backe over the bridge of Shrewle <B> & lay in Shrewle that night, & the next day being Sunday as they passed over the said bridge of Shrewle towards Gallway there was a partie before them & another behind them which fell vppon them on both sides and saith that the Convoy which [ ] came with them from Castlebarre wer among the rest of the murtherers & shee heard from the Irish partie afterwards that the said Convoy wer as deep in the murther as the rest and shee saith that her said husband was killed with there with divers other men women & children. And saith that the said murther was
<comitted a little after Christmas in the year 1641 and being asked how shee knew the said Sir Thibbott Bourke; shee saith that being on their way to Shrewle <C> the Bishop of Killallas children wer stripped by some of the Convoy, & this examinant seeing Sir Thibbott Burke on horsebacke asked who hee was & hearing that it was the Lord of Mayos son shee complained>

to him of the stripping of the said Children who ride a little way after the plunderers but returned without causing any restitucion to bee made. shee further saith that when any of the said English stayed never soe little behind the rest they wer stripped & plundered by the said Convoy.
Being further examined whether shee s aw John Browne of the Neale was present at the said Murther shee saith shee knoweth not, & further cannot say
