The examjnacion of Peter Rickebee of the Citty of Dublin Smith aged thirty fowre yeares or thereabouts taken the first day of Aprill 1654
whoe beeing duely sworne and examjned deposeth and saith That in the first winter after the Rebellion in Ireland the examjnant then <A> liueing in Belturbett in the County of Cauan in nature of a prisoner with the rebells, the examjnant did there see Brian oge ô Mullpatricke Gillish oge ô Rely, Cahire oge More ô Mullpatricke Cnogher oge ô Mullpatricke, Brian Reogh ô Mullpatricke, ffarrell mc Brian Reogh ô Mullpatricke son of the said Brian, and an other son of the said Brian and divers others whose names the examjnant doth not remember all then liueing in or neere Belturbett, and allsoe did see Donell ô Rely alias Donell Johnson now or lately liueing at Eniskillin in the County of ffermanagh with diuers others whose names the examjnant remembreth not, and all the said persons beeing together in the said towne of Bellturbett, the examjnant did standing in the window of his owne house in the said towne did see them carry Timothy Dickison James Carr and William Gibbs three Englishmen and Protestants thorough the said towne towards the

the Gallowes which stood neere the said townes end, and did see the said James Carr and Timothy Dickison drawne vpp by a rope (which was fast about theire neckes) to the topp of <B> the said Gallowes, where the examjnant did see them hang for a while and then cutt downe aliue and then did see the said Donell ô Rely alias Donell Johnson with the rest of the said Rebells returneing from the said Gallowes, The examjnant further saith that immediatly therevppon some after hee together with Edmond Brady now liueing in or neere Belturbett went vpp towardes the said gallowes and there they found the said James Carr and Timothy Dickison lyeing vppon theire faces (neere the said gallowes) both dead, The examjnant further saith that as hee remembers the said William Gibbs butcher (who <C> now liueth at Trym) (the same day that the said James Carr and Timothy Dickison were hanged as aforesaid) did tell the examjnant that after the said Carr and Dickison were hanged ther some of the said Rebells did putt a roape about his the said Gibbs his necke with intencion to hang him allsoe but by the mediacion of some of the said Rebells hee was then saued, The examjnant further saith that hee returneing from the Gallowes after seeing the said Carr and

Dickison hanged as aforesaid did perceaue the said Donell ô Rely alias Donell Johnson with <D> the rest of the rebells aforesaid goeing before the said examjnant thorough the the towne towards the riuer at Belturbett and driueing before them the wife of the said Timothy Dickison and his two children, Gamaliell Carters wife and one of his Children, the widdow Phillipps, Edward Mastins wife and two of his children, John Jones and two of his Children, Samuell comonly called Samuell the heelemaker, the widdow Munday and the widdow Stanton and seuerall other Protestants who to the number of thirty seauen or thereabouts and in theire passage towards the said riuer the examjnant did heare th see the said widdow Munday, kneele vppon her knees, and begg of the said Donell ô Rely that hee would saue her life but hee an takeing her by <E> the sholder thrust her before him and said shee should goe with the rest, and soe shee and the rest beeing brought to the Bridge of Belturbett, the examjnant standing vppon the edge of the hill within sight of the said Bridge did see the said Donell ô Rely alias John Donell Johnson and the rest of the said Rebells thrust of the Bridge into the reuer riuer the said Protestants to the number of thirty seauen or thereabouts as aforesaid, where they were all drowned, The examjnant saith that within

<F> within fowre dayes after the Corpes of the two Children of the said Edward Mastin beeing cast vppon the shoare the examjnant did helpe to bury them, The examjnant further saith that soone after the drowneing of the Protesta{nts} aforesaid the examjnant heard it generally report{ed} in the said towne of Belturbett that one Phi Samuell the heelemaker did of swym{e} in the said riuer towards the shoare which Phillip ô Togher one of the said Rebells perceaueing with a pike which hee then had in his hand thrust the said Sanuell the heelemaker into the body and driue him further into the riuer where hee was drown{ed} And further saith not,
