<symbol> The Examination of Captain Jacob Knowles of Downepatterick in the County of Downe Adged 32 yeares or thereabouts taken before vs the 19th of May 1653
Who being duely sworne and Examined, saith that hee haueing a warrant, for the apprehending of Art o Neile, and seuerall others for murder, did make search for the said Art o Neile in or about the 26 of December last, at Ballyhornan and could not finde him, but comeing out of that towne, where hee mett with a boy, of Mr Bryan o Neiles, and asked him if hee knew where Art o Neile was, hee answered that hee did lye in the said towne, and had beene six weekes sick and that he was gon abroade that same day, and that the Lady o Neile had sent him a banner, and that hee was gon towards Mr Simon Jordans house, a mile from the said place, wherevpon this deponet went thether, but could not finde him there . About three or four dayes after, this deponet being in Downepatterick, hee mett with the said Mr Bryan รด Neile and hee asked this deponett what order hee had for his brother, this Deponet made answere that hee had an order, and therevpon showed him the said Bryan o Neile, the said order, And the said Mr Bryan o Neile said that his brother would cleare himself, And more saith not
