3487Aprile May the 7th 1653 The Examination of John Peetter of Glenarme aged about fortie yeeres
<3> Who vpon the Examination sayeth that in the yeere of god 1641 henry grom magill Brian moder magill, Gillaspick mc Adeory Brian o Mulligan and others wer at the murther that was Comitted at the hill heid of Ballygelly where Symon wallace and the others of the thirtein was killed And the reason of this Exementes knowledge is, that after there returne from the said murther he being in Glenarme as a prisoner did heire the said persons makeing there Brages thereof < And particulary he this Examinant heard Gillaspick Mc Adeory bragg that he he gaue the first shott> and relateing that there was one old woman in the howse that did strive to keep in light, where by to discouer them, but they all wise beatt out the light, then she cried out this is a blacke Ireland to vs, and further sayeth that he hard the aboue named personns report that Symon wallace who was on of the murthered personns, vpon there assault cried out to his fellowes, sayeing stand for our defence with Courage for they had musquettes & pouder & ball to defend withall
