The Examinacion of Katharine Gilmore of Ballenahince taken before mee the daye & yeare aboue written Ambrose Bedell
Who saith that 8 dayes before the Candellmas next after the Rebellion, Shee then liueing in the towne land of Balledavy in the Barrony of Castlereagh together with tenn familyes more, of all which 11 familyes there were (of men, weomen, and Children) killed to her owne knowledge seaventy and three by a great Company of People, (being) to her Estimacion in number about 200, who were brought thether, by one Andrew Hamilto{n} <A> of the fforte, James Johnson the Elder & James Johnson the yonger both of Balledavy John Crafford of Craffords Burne, And further she saith, That James Johnson the Elder killed one Henry รด Gilmore brother to the Examinat, in her owne sight, And likewise shee sawe the said James with his sword slashing att one Edmond Neeson, who was killed, but she knowether hee made an end of him or not; for on the receipt of the first blow, the said Neeson rann to the lower end of the house, among the rest of his neighbours the cause of her knowledge is; that a short space before, the said Andrew Hamilton had putt her out of the Doore of the house in Consideracion of her Brackan, after which she saith, that by reason there were many of Hamiltons Company aboute the Doore, she lay her downe in a Ditch which was right before the Doore, where she was vnespied of any as she supposeth; the night being very Darke, rayny and windie, and 4 or 5 lights in the house; the which lights the said Hamilton or his men caused this Examinants mother to make for them a litle before supper tyme, of which lights they carried some to euery house for to giue them light, to compasse theire designe
<B> The Examinant further saith that she saw one Abraham Adam kill James O Gilmor her owne husband, and Daniell Crone O Gilmore, and Thurlagh O Gillmore, she further saith, That at her going forth of the house a sister of hers tooke hould of her, for to goe out with her, And the said Abraham Adam strock of her said sisters Arme from the Elbow with a broade sword, the sisters name was Owna O Gilmore
