The examinacion of Tho: Emdin of Downpatrick in Com: Downe Carpenter aged six & fourty yeares or thereabouts taken 3 June 1653
Who being duely examined vpon oath saith that he was an inhabitant in Downe when as a party of the Irish came to Downe aforesaid the ffebruary after the begining of the Rebellion & saith he saw them robbing & pillaging there but saw not any kild by them but heard by a generall report that Abraham Hempton & Dorothy his wife Anne Betts <A> & Phillip Corryes was kild by the Irish aforesaid but did not heare who it was particularly which killed them neither did he seeth the Corpes of the persons slaine as aforesaid but saith that he saw the Lord Maginis & Rory Maginis Donell Maginis & heard that Patt: mc Cartan amongst the generall Company of the Irish which came to Downe as aforesaid & also heard by a generall report that Patt: mc Cartan was amongst them And further saith not Donell Maginis now in prison who was sent a pledge to Killeleagh Castle vntill the Articlles made at Downe aforesaid for the surrendring of the Lord Cromwells house was performed And further saith not
