The Examinacion of Robert fformunt of Drumcenevey in the County of Antrym aged About 70: yeares who beinge duly sworne this this1t of June 1653 saith
That about the first of ffebruary in the first yeare of the Rebellion hee this Examinante lived in Cormavy in the County of Antrym, and in the same Towneland with Mr James Hamilton, and in reguard of the great spoyle and hurt that was done in the Countrey adiacent <A> by some of Sir Phellimy o Neile his Party: and the Irish who were then daily runinge into Rebellion they the Inhabitants of Carmavy & thereabouts kept a Guard for their owne security, of which this Examinante was one, and that this Guard was Comanded by the said Mr Hamilton, vnto whom there came one James ffulton of Carnagliley and tould him the said Mr Hamilton that all his Cowes were taken from him and that they were in Humphrey Saxtons house, wherevpon the said Mr Hamilton with seuerall others amongst whom this Examinante was one went to see if it were soe or not and found noe Cowes there nor any body in the house and that then they the said Hamilton & his party, sawe some parties of the Irish of which they tooke one neare vnto the house of the said Saxton, which they haveing done the aforesaid Hamilton tould them that were with him hee would goe & see Michaell Doyne who as this Examinant heard was then Sicke which they accordingly did, and as the said Hamilton & his party were marchinge towards the house of Michaell Doyne the sawe about 60 ffoote approchinge betwixt them and Castle Robbinge and marchinge towards Michaell Doyne his house, wherevpon the said Hamiltons party: stood some of them beinge affraid, neuertheles they marched forward vntill such tyme as the Party aforesaid Consistinge of about 60: came within Call to them: & asked the said Mr Hamilton what newes, who answered, nothinge but <B> peace vnto which they replied (beinge a party of Irish) wee say nothinge but peace on our side, And this examinante further saith that att the same tyme they the said Hamilton & his party saw a party of ffoot cominge from the house of Michaell Doyne consistinge of

of about 70: or 80: persons from whom there came a servant there belonginge to Michaell Doyne: whom Mr Hamilton asked what Newes vnto which hee answered noe newes, but peace neuertheless stand to your Armes, wherevpon the party with Hamilton handled their Armes and made ready to give fire vpon the party <C> that came from Castle Robbin, but the said Mr Hamilton hindred them & Caused them to putt out their Matches, wherevpon the Party of Irish that Came from Castle Robbin, fell vpon Hamilton & his party and this Examinante alsoe saith that the aforesaid Party that Came from Michaell Doynes came vp and Joyned with the other Party of Irish, and that there was eighteene persons or thereabouts slaine in that place besides diuerse that were wounded & died afterwards, amongst whom there was was William Harpar: John Key: William Harpur, Andrewe Sloanes, Geo: Macnagh, William Gardner, with many others, and the aforesaid Hamilton was taken away prisoner to Michaell Doyne his house and was the same Day killed as this Examinant hath heard it reported Comonly: And beinge Demanded whether hee knewe who Comanded either of those Parties that ffell vpon them saith that hee did not: but that Michaell Doynde Did suddenly after goe into Rebellion & further saith not
