The examinacion or confession of Murtagh O Gilmore of Leghouerin in Com: Downe aged fithirty nine yeares taken at Lisnegarvy 21 April 1653
Who saith that he Liued in Balliconell i n Kilmckeuit in Comm: Antrim at the begining of the Rebellion & presently after all his Tennants & Neighbours gathered togeather to defend themselues against any which should oppose them & taried in Balliconnell for the space of six or seuen weekes & at the end thereof one Robert Sanders who was one of the said company told vnto this examinant that he would goe downe vnto Temple Patrick being 3 miles from Ballyconnell to heare what newes he could gett there & haueing gone thither & being returning back againe to Balliconell he told this examinant & the rest of the men that were with him that those men that Liued at Ballimartin were all murdred by seuerall men that came ouer the Ban from Garuaghy & also desired this examinant to leaue the place imediately lest he also should be murdred there that night vpon which this examinant & some others with him went ouer the Ban & left his wiue & children behind him which were vp & downe in seuerall places seeking reliefe & could not come to this examinant vntill a quarter of a yeare after that. And being demanded if he neuer heard who it was that <A> murdred the McGougins & McCarries of Ballimartin saith that he heard from one Any McCarry dwelling seruant to with Mrs Vernon in Kilwarlin about a month agoe that it was comitted by John Garuan & Rob: Miller with others & now liueing about six mile water with seuerall others
