The Examinacion of Daniell McIllmartin of the Newry in the County of Antryme Downe, ffowler Aged 35 yeares or thereabouts who being dulie sworne & examined before vs the 31th of May 1653 saith
That John Garvin of Temple pattricke in the County of Antrym then Leiutenant to Capten Henry Vpton hauinge the Comande of the Watch in that Guarrisson att or about the Latter end of January next after the begininge of the Rebellion, gaue direccions vnto the then Corporall of that Guard that hee should be verry carefull of the watch that night, of which number this Examinante was then one of the souldiers, and vpon the same Guard tould the said Leiutenant tould the Corporall that hee would goe the Grand round with some part of the souldiers and that hee would goe as farr as Rickamore which was a Mile distant from the Guarrisson, which hee Accordingly did and returned not backe vntill the next morninge which was the saboth day and that then hee this Examinante sawe diuse of that party that went forth with the Leiutenant bringe into the Towne with them many Brackins, Coates, shirts, smocks, and other Apparrell, And that therevpon this Examinante run to his sargent whose name was Wondrum & tould him that hee had seene hes mothers Brackin amongst the souldiers, and asked him what hee should doe; wherevpon the sargent bade him goe into the house of Jesper Garvyn then Constable & since dead, and secure himselfe; which hee this Examinante accordingly did and called his brother then a souldier alsoe with him and therevpon Capten Vpton hauing notice sent for this Examinante & his brother & vnckle to the Castle where they were kept in safety for the space of three dayes, and tould them that hee would vse his Endeavours to send them to <B> Belfast or Carrickfergus for their future safetie which was accordingly done, And further saith that as hee this Examinante his brother & vnckle were passinge on their way towards belfa{st} their Capten beinge then in their Company to Convoy them safety from the rage & violence of the Scotts thereabouts, part of their way, hee sawe the Corps of seuerall persons to the Number of fiue & Twenty who were slaine as hee hath heard it reported by his John Garvyn his Leiutenant & the party Comanded by him, and Lieutenant Lynsey: with some of his brothers Troope, And this examinante beinge demanded whether hee knewe any of those Corps so slaine as aforesaid saith that hee knewe the most of them and that

That Henry McCarry, Rory McCarry, Katherin nee Stocker Donnogh McCarry Katherin oge nee Carry, ffynnola nee Gueere <C> Meave nee Gueere, Dorothy nee Knocker Bryan O Boylan anney nee Reskins were all murthered there and that hee sawe the body of his ffather in Law Lyeinge vpon the fire which hee this Examinante removed, alsoe the body of his mother which his brother Couered with strawe, And this Examinante alsoe saith that the name of the place where these persons were murthered, was called Balleymartin about a quarter of a mile distant from Rickamore aforesaid whither his Leiutenant said hee would goe with his men and further saith not
