The Examinacion of Elizabeth Macowen alias Maccullae of Templepatrick in the Countie of Antrim Spinster adged 40 yeares or thereabouts being duely sworne & examined by virtue of her oath saith
That in the winter quarter of the first yeare of the Rebellion begunn in Ireland, this Examinate being att the Mill of Ballymartin in the Countie aforesaid did discerne two Troopers goeing towards this Examinats house, they being in the Reare of a partie of Horse which Marched by the said house: wherevppon this Examinate feared that the said two troopers would Comitt some violence in her this deponents said house & then repayred speedily hoame & before when shee this Examinate came therevnto shee found two dead Corps lying within this Examminats Chamber doore, which were the boddies of William Magucane & his wife, who were of did repayre thither for Shelter about 3 dayes before from the furie & violence of such who hadd soone before slayne many of the Irish Inhabitants in those parts . And this Examinate saith that shee & her husband Alexander McOwen misseing a working Gelding of his which was taken away att the tyme the foresaid Murther was Comitted wente in pursuite of the said Gelding to Templepatrick aforesaid & there found the said Guelding in the hand of one of the said Troopers, whose name was one Gourdon as this Examinate was afterward crediblie informed. & demaunding of him wherefore hee tooke the said Gelding hee answeared, that hee Left Beefe enough in the house for him, but then would not restore the said Gelding. And further dep saith not
