William Prince of Carrickfergus Butcher beinge the 18th day of January 1652 sworne and Examyned before mee Captayne John Dalwaye Maior of the Countye of the Towne of Carrickfergus aforesaide sayth that in or about the ffifth day of July 1649 when as George Monro was beleaguring the said Towne, one Captayne Andrewe Adare, then In that Garrissone, came to the fflancker Called Crannogbane & <A> demaunded of John Griffith (whoe was there with others for the defence of the place) and asked him what doe yow there, and soone after the saide Captayne Adare havinge his sworde shaithed in his hande, drewe the same presentlye and strucke at the saide Griffithes head: which hee perceivinge the saide Griffith life vpp his hands, and Received the stroak in his hande, that his hand was Neigh Cutt of: And then presently after hee the said Capten Andrewe Adare with the saide sworde, Thrust him the saide John Griffith vnder the lift Papp, soe that hee the saide Griffith fell downe dead to the Grounde, and blead both at the Mouth and Wounde, And more sayth not &c.
