Certayne Examinacciones taken before mee Capten John Dalway Maior of the Countye of the Towne of Carrickfergus this 18th daye of January 1652
Patricke O Qillyn of Carrickfergus Butchier beinge sworne & Examined before mee sayth that in or About the ffifth of July 1649 whenas George Monro was beleaguringe the said Towne One Captayne Andrewe Adare, then in the Garrissone, came to the fflancker Called Grannogbane, & demaunded of John Griffith (whoe was there with others for defence of the place) and asked him what doe yow there, takinge him by the Bandeleyrooes, and pullinge him to him brake them, soe that hee the said Captayne Adare had like to fall backwarde: And therevppon the said Captayne Adare havinge his sworde sheithed in his hande, drewe the same presentlye, & strucke at the said Griffiths head, which perceiuinge the saide Griffith lift vpp his hand and Received the strook in his hande, that his hande was almost Cutt of; And then presently after hee the saide Capten Andrewe Adare with the said sworde Thrust him vnder the Lift Papp, soe that hee the saide Grittith fell downe dead to the Ground, and blead both at the wounde and at the Month; And more sayth not &c.
