The Examinacion of Edmond English of Grangebegg in the County of Kildare yeoman taken before me Sir Roberte Meredith knight Chauncellor of his Maiesties Courte of Exchequer & one of his highnes Justices of of peace in the said Countie the 8th day of ffebr 1641
The saied Edmond beinge sworne vppon the holly Evangelist saith that vppon the 13th day of december Last Thomas mc Mullmurr{y} mc keogho of knockandarragh gentleman William mc Shane mc ffarrall mc keogho of the same gentleman donell mc Tirlagh of Tenvote gentleman Hue Carragh o Toole of Brittace gentleman Mawrice mc Donell of Rahinsillagh gentleman Peerce Walsh of Logglasse gentleman all of Imaill in the County of Wicklo came in warlike Manner with pykes swords & guns in warlike m to Grange begg in the County of Kildare about one of the Clock in the afternoone and entred the outer hall of the said mr Henry warren his house and demaunded entrance into the Castle thinkinge to gett some Armes and Municion and beinge kept out, they gathered together all the saied Henry his Cowes and Sheepe and droue away into I maill the said Cowes to the nomber of 90 head of English breed which one with another were worth 3 li. a peece, but the sheepe they left behinde them by reason that it was late and that they could not driue them as fast as they did the Cowes

He also saith that vppon the 18th of december he went to Castlemartin to demaund a stone horse of the said mr Warren taken from one of his servants by Tho: Baggott one of mr Ewstace his Company & there did see in warlike manner Mawrice Ewstace of Castlemartin Esquire styled Collonell Thomas Baggott, Henry ffirrs James mc Walter fitz Garrald, George Missett, Robte Rian, Edward Orde, John Doelane Donogh Magwier Barnaby Bardane, Edmond Ewstace <Rowland Ewstace> James Missett & Laurance Missett all tenants or servants to the said mr Ewstace & did see them with pykes swords guns which they receaued from the said mr Ewstace and doe accompany him in committinge many Robberies
Hee further saith that vppon Monday the 17th of January last he takinge the Naas way to Dublin he did see in the Towne of the Naas Roger Moore, Hue mc ffelem Birne Mawrice Ewstace styled Collonells & Sir Robte Talbott Barronett with diuers others
[ ] Nichas Sutton of Tipper and diuerse others whose names he doth not know and there were Consultinge together & as this Examinant was comminge on his way he was apprehended at the Towne of Rathcoole by some of Capten Skurloks Company and kept with them as a prisoner for a day and a halfe night
