Roger Gow alias Mackane sworne and examined before me the 4th of Nouember 1652 deposeth
(2) A
That he was borne, and liued at the Brough most part of his life tyme; And that at the begining of the warr Donogh mc Quough liued at Loghguerr and stole away [ ] cowes from Mr Weeks, and droue them to Brough; And that the said Mr Lacy findeing the said [ ] cowes there, sent them back agayne to the said Mr Weeks to Loghguerr And moreouer that the said Quough told the Inhabitants of Brough, that the English of Loghguer intended to burne the Brough as they had don BallynaGalleagh: whereupon the Inhabitants of the said place and of the neighbouring villadges as Bally Grenane & BallynaGalleagh assembled themselues together to the Hill of Brough And seeing that none of the Garrison came foorth they all returned back agayne, except the said Donogh mc Quough and <B> foure or fiue more to whom the said Donogh told that he would bring them, to a place where they should gett a good prize, And soe brought them to a place neere Grange where they tooke Gregory Thorne and Patrick and brought them to Brough before Mr John Lacy; who told them that he had nothing to doe with My lord of Baths servants and wished them to dismiss them, for he was his good friend and would not doe my lord of Bath or any of his servants any hurt unless they began with him; Neuertheless the Constable, and this Donogh mc Quough and one or two more <C> carryed them to Killmallock, and stayed there one night (to this deponents best remembrance) and brought them back agayne to Brough: And told the people that they had orders from the Gouernor of Killmallock to hang those two men at the Brough, for the greater terror to the people of Loghguer But when Mrs Lacy heard thereof she sent
<for them, and gaue them victualls; and desired those men not to meddle with them vntill her husband came home (who was then gonn out of towne) And that she would entertayne them as her servants and gett them to goe to mass; And the rather for that the said Thorne was a good fowler. But this Quough replyed that he had orders from the Gouernor of Killmallock to hang them; And that if he were>

hindered he would stabb them with his skeyne before his face, And thereupon tooke them out to the Gallowes and hang’d them himself: His case of knowledge is that he was present at all these passadges
<D> This Roger o Mackane further sayeth that two plowmen of Mr Lacyes told him; that this Donogh mc Quough came to them about foure or fiue dayes agon, and told them that Mr lacy was to be apprehended by the Garrison of Loghguer and wished them to bidd him absent and make away his goods before they were taken
