The examinacion of Maurice McConmy now in Polychowny within the barony of Tireragh and County of Sligo taken in Sligo the 26o of May 1653
Maurice McConmy being of the agde of thrittie six years or thaireabouts being examined sayth that he Liwed in Dunlyn in the barony of Tireragh about <A> the begineing of the rebellion; And that Captain Brian mcSwyn who was then goeing to Spaine with his Company wer the first breakers of the peace of that barony and that they murdered three men at Ardneglas; And this examinant further sayth that hee this examinantt haweing occation to come to Ardneglas to the smiths forge wher he was that day, hee this examinantt with a scottishman whom he had entertained was thair by chance and a little boy in thair company by whom [ ] this examinantt was informed that thair was murder committing in the towne, whervpon this examinantt cam to the place of execution and found on (who was of the name of macdonnell) hangeing vp, And that hee this examinant drew outt his sword and cutt him downe, and efterwards he this examinantt waited vpon him till he recowered a little and from thence he caried him into [ ] a place of saftie, as this examinantt conceawed, and so returned vnto the smiths forge to finish his business, but befor that this examinantt could be ready the forsaid mcdonell was murdered, by the said souldiers of Captain Brian McSwyn, And this examinantt further sayth that when he challengded tham for thair wicked fact, that he this examinantt was threatned in his owne person and that they wold hang that scottishman who was in his company, and further sayth that he caried with him a boy and wench alongs with him secretly to his owne hous, whom he preserwed from thair furie, and afterwards sent tham away safe;
