The examinacion of Magdalen Duckworth of Lisnegaruy in the County of Antrim single woeman aged about twenty six yeares taken vpon oath the 10th of ffeb: 1652
Who saith that shee liued with her Granmother Widdow Carlile in the towne of Ardmagh when the Rebellion began, & being sent that morning before Ardmagh was burnt, with a Possett to one mr John Dawson her Granmothers Landlord, (who as she heard lately is yet Liueing in Cambridge) which mr Dawson, & vpwards of fourescore English more, were then kept in prison in the Sessions house & Gaole below it in Ardmagh, by Turlogh Oge O Neille, whome his brother Sir Phill: had made Gouernor there, & by the way as she came back the said Sir Phill: his seruant (whose name she remembers not) forced the Tankard from her being of Siluer, Sir Phill: being not farre of about the said Sessions house, & presently after, by that time this examinant gott to the farr end of the Street, she saw a little thatched house adioyning to the said Sessions house on fire, & there & in the Prison below it, all the said English prisoners were burnt, being kept in by a Guard of Irish except the said mr Dawson mr Taylor & one mr Graues who b ought their Li u es as this examin a nt heard the said m r Dawson & m r Graves report to this examinants said Granmother, whither they presently came to their children, who were then Lyeing there sick of the small Pox & this examinant saw some of the Irish come presently after & strip them both of their Cassockes, Doubletts & Boots, And being demanded if the said Graues or Taylor be liueing, she saith they are both dead but that mr Graues his wife is Liueing in Drogheda & also one Tho: Dixon who liues in Drogheda she belieues can testify these proceedings being a dweller then in Ardmagh whome this examinant saw there at that time & also saw an

Irish man cutt of one his wiues brests, as her child was sucking her, & shortly after this examinant was sent to Kinnard (the said Sir Phill:s towne) to her mother, by mr Dawsons meanes, & vpon the way this examinant saw mrs Maxwell (wife to mr. John Maxwell, (who with seuerall others were hanged the Sunday before) drowned in the blackwater being then in labour when she was forced into the River, haueing nothing <C> on but her Smock & a paire of red stockings, & a little while after the Irish had forced her in the child parted from her & did swim & they knocked it into the water but the mother sunke, And being demanded if she knew any of these murderers saith she onely knew one Patt: O Hugh, chiefe actor in it, who was the said mr. Maxwells seruant, & is since dead as she hath heard & she also saith that her mother was also shortly murdered & her sucking child but she knowes not by whome & further saith not.
