The Examinacion of Robert Aphugh of Carlingford taken the 18th of Janu: 1652 Concerning Jo: Babe
<A> Whoe being duly sworne and examined deposeth as followeth (vizt)
That he knoweth John Babe of Carlingford now prisoner and hath know him these 15 yeeres past.
hee deposeth that the Examinant being a soldier [ in ] vnto Capten Treuor whoe then Comanded the Castle of Castle Carlingford v n for King and parliament the Examinant was quartered in the house of the said John Babe, whoe one night fledd away and left the Towne because a plott of [his?] to surprise the Castle of Carlingford was discovered to haue betrayed to the Castle to the Irish was discouered, as this Examinant was told by seuerall of the Townes people, And hee further sayth that some of the soldiers told him that a party of the Irish Lay in the mountaines for that purpose, and that some of the soldiers found some peeces of mat h match as the told the Examinant, but whoe the said soldiers were by name the Examinant remembreth not, it being soe long since And this Examinant being asked the question whether hee did know, or hath heard whether that the said Babe did kill or murtherd any of

any of the English [ a ] since the Rebellion hee An deposeth that he nethther knew nor heard of any, But that the said Babe as he was enformed by Lieutenant Leech Mr Bonner & Mrs Bonner and diuers others that the said Babe did saue many of the English of that towne of Carlingford at the begining of the Rebellion, And further hee deposeth not.
