The Examinacion of Mrs ffrances St John aged aboute 30 yeares Wife of Mr John St John taken at Lisnegarvy Aprill 1653
Who saith that at the begining of the Rebellion <A> she liued in Clanbrassell and being a prisoner with the Irish when she hard that Captain St Johns wife was to be released and sent with a Convoy to Lisnegarvy, she came along with her and many other English prisoners aboute the latter end of January 1641 and saith that they were Convoyd by Lieutenant Coll Oghy O Hanlan and aboute a dozen of his souldiers and some 2 miles on this side of Lurgan there came aboute 4 or 5 Irish men out of the bushes and fell vpon John Poynton Gregory Loe Mrs Franklin and Mrs Hewayrd and seuerall other women and m and Children Children and murdered aboute 14 in all The said Oghy o Hanlan being present and Mrs St Johns complayning of it to him he answered her that a hayre of her head <B> nor of any other named in her pass should be touched and that night they came to Phillemy Duff mc Cormacke O Neales howse whoe caused a Cow to be kild for them and entertayned them kindly and the next morning he came with them on the way neare to a place called Mallucantan aboute 3 miles from Lisnegarvy to the best of her remembrance where the said Lieutenant Collonell Hanlan left the said Mrs St John and Mrs Pladnell and this Examinant and diuers others weomen and tooke away there horses back but the Irish that was there kept Mr Charles Perkens and Mr John Drayton for some prisoners of thers to be exchanged at Lisnegarvy as they alleaged, and Mr St John and the rest of the weomen came vnto Lisnegarvy And being demanded what <C> Irish it was, and whither the said Phillomy Duffe Mc

Mc Cormack was present at the time when these Prisoners were staied she saith shee doth not know who they were or whither the said Phillomy was then present or not was one of them that detayned the said Mr Perkings and Dratan, but saith that aboute a mile before he was in Company with them and was said to haue comand one of there Irish, but doth not know what became of the said Mr Perkings and Dratan but hard there were <D> hanged by the Irish And she further saith that one Owne Row Mc Coineall now liuing beyond Lurgan a Clanconnell told this Examinant & boasted of it that he had hanged one Thomas Caluert of Clanbrassell this Examinants Neighbour shortly after the Rebellion
