< [ ] > The Examination of Richard Cradell of Doune taken the 3d May 1653
The sayd Examinat being aged about fyftye and foure yeeres sayeth that in the first yeere of the last Rebellion of the Irish, he was one of those that, defended the l: Cromwells house in Doune against the Irish, and that after before the said house was rendered upon conditions Richard Abrahams wyfe and one Katherin Birne being admitted to speak to hir sonne in the house told this Examinant that his wyfe was taken out of Richard Cusacks house in Doune and caryed to the backsyde and there killed
The sayd Examinat further sayeth that about a moneth or six weeks after that the said house of the l: Cromwells was surrenderd he this Examinat mett with one Robert Welch in Richard Cusacks house [ ] nere to Sale and that he this Examinat obserued that the sayd Rob Welch had a suit of cloathes of rid coulour upon him, which formerly belonged to this Examinat and which he had from the lord Cromwell being one of his foot Company: That thereupon this Examinat asked the sayd Rob welch where he gott the sayd cloathes the sayd welch answered that Rich Cusacke and his wyfe did giue him the sayd cloathes; And the sayd Examinat sayeth that he had left the sayd cloathes with his wyfe in his house which was the next house to the sayd Richard Cusacks house; in Doune. from which house in doune the said Richard Cusacke had remoued to the fore sayd place neere Sale after the surrender of the l: Cromwells house
