The Examinacion of Owen mc Cartan of Kinelearty in the County of Downe aged about 58 yeeres taken at Carickfergus 9th of June 1653
Being demanded where he was at the first breaking forth of the rebellyon saith he was at his owne house and remayned there for the space [ ] of three or ffowre moneths after at which time he was amongst others thrust out by the Scots men, And saith he did not goe to the siege of Downe till about seauen dayes after the siege was began <A> by the O Neylls & Magneiss’s & that he continued there but one night his businesse there being to save the goods of the Lord Cromwell from spoyling; as alsoe to enquire after a horse & some Cowes taken from him by the Irish party. & then returned three or fowre nights As he remembers before his Brother came home, sayth the chiefe in Comand of the Irish at the Liege were Lord Iveagh Bryan mc hugh boy & Con oge o Neyll & he heard Donell mc [Tyre] Magneise was there but he saw him not ffurther saith not
