<A> The Examinacion of Donnell Magee of Ballyeeron in the parish of Culfaghtrim in the County of [London derry] Antrim Gent taken before vs at Colerane the 15th day of March 1652
Who being examined saith That after the Murder at Portnaw reported to be committed by James McColl McDonnell Allester McColl McDonnell Tirlagh oge ô Cahan & the men seduced by them divers Scotchmen fled to this Examinants house, & told him that the Irish were killing the Scotch all along through the Countrey That this Examinant heard of diverse kill’d in many places in the Countrey & see dead bodies of men ly in the feilds & some he see ly dead who had beene killd at Oldstone after the surrender of the Castle of Oldstone vnto James McColl McDonnell neere & about the same Castle And he saith that the cause of his goeing vnto Oldstone vpon heareing the Irish Army were marched thither was to save some brittish acquaintance of his who were departed the place before he came thither That from thence he returned vnto his sowne house & did abide there & never joyned with the Irish in besiegeing or assaulting any Townes or holds held by the Brittish And further he saith that not withstanding maney Brittish in the Roote were kill’d by the Irish at severall times yet he doth not know by whom they were kill’d otherwise then by report that it was the Irish who killed them, but whom by name he knowes not & that he was not present at any place where any of the Brittish were kill’d from the [ ] begining of the Irish Rebellion vntill this day And further he saith not
