The exam: of John Waringren Gentleman of the Newry of the aige of 47 yeares taken at Carrickfergus June 3o 1653
Who beinge duly sworne & examined saith that in the begininge of the rebellion he was at Greene Castle and that it was first taken by Donnell McCawly & afterwards it was commanded by Art ro McG{ } & his wiffe Rose McCartan (now liueinge towards the Roote as this deponent heard) at which time Leuit Treuor his wiffe & family with seuerall other brittish came to Greene Castle prisoners, & was put into the Church, & kept by a Guard but who brought them this examinant knowes not, neither can tell who sent them to Downe Patricke, nor who caried them, but remembers that oneRussell a yellow browne har haired man, & one meriman a yellow haired man betwixt 30 & 40 yeare of ai{ge} as this deponent beleeueth, & that Russell was yonger; yet that Russell this deponent is not certaine off betweene and heard that the said Lieutenant Treu{or} & the rest were pittifully vsed & killd, but by whom this examinant did not heare, & further saith not saueinge that he heard that Donnell oge McEnees now in prisoner was after that then Governor of Newry, & that himselfe & other prisoners at Greene Castle when they heard of him were afraid, for that they heard he was a sharp man
