The examination of Henry Allen of Ballenderry the merchant of the aige of 56 yeares taken [ ] at Carickfergus the 3th of June 1653
Who beinge sworne & examined saith that in the begininge of the Rebellion he was a Constable in & Newry, & so continued a certan time after, in which time about January 1641 as this examinant, heard say, there was one Bryan O Roony that was hanged for caryinge Letters to Sir Edw: Treuor & others, but who commanded him to {be} hanged, or who did hange him this examinant knowes nor did heare and, also that there was a Dyer hanged, but by whom or by what command this examinant knowes not, and also that Leuitenant Treuor & other English were brought into the Newry by the Irish & about a fortnight after was sent convoyed by Edmund McGnees & his company as this deponent heard to Greene Castle, but what became of them this deponent knowes not, but heard that they were kild by the said Edmond oge McGnees & his company, & beinge demanded who gouerned Newry at that time, sayes that he remembers not nor did know but supposeth that Tirlo oge O Neile or Hugh McDonnell Oge McGnees that commanded the Castle, or Sir Con McGnees & this deponent sayes that yesterday the 2o of June instant Hugh Magin now prisoner in this towne did tell him that he went to Sir Con to tell him that the English were a killinge, & that it was a shame to kill them, & Sir Con gaue order to carry them to Downe Patricke & that Sir Con was then at Newcastle but for all that this they were kild as this deponent heard & further saith not
