The examinacion of Dauid Boyes of Dunmurry in Com: Antrim aged thirty yeares or thereabouts taken at Carrickfergus 6 May 1653
Who saith that about foare yeares agoe this examinant with one Art O Donelly, & John Burden were goeing vp to Dundalk to [ ] Coll: Monroe from Lisnegaruy & vpon their way one Brian O Lauerty with Turlo McGagherty & others in <A> his company who were lyeing in Ambush for Coll: Monckes comeing downe to Lisnegaruy chanced to meet with this examinant & the rest & took them prisoners & also they chanced to take at that time one Edm: McCormack being a Post sent with letters from Coll: Monck from L Dundalk to Maior Rawden at Lisnegaruy & they took this examinant with the said Post to Charlemount (the rest of the aforemencioned persons soe taken as aforesaid being sent home to gett monies for the ransome of them & this examinant & & when this examinant & the said Post the said Brian O Lauerty with the rest of his company took the said Edm: McCormack with this Examinant to the Gallowes to be where the said Edm: McCormack was hanged & soe had this examinant if it Had not ben for an Irish Gentlewoman who passed by that way who begged this examinants life from Shane O Neille Gouernor of Charlemount & three Priests being in Charlemount vizt Phelomy Neale Priest O Hagh & Preist McClosky which being granted the said three Priests came vnto the Gallowes & saued this examinant & th imediatly after they he was put him into prison where he continued for about the space of three weekes at the end of which time his ransome came & then they dismissed him but this examinant further saith that at the time their takeing as aforesaid by the said Brian O Lauerty they demanded of

them what they were vpon which the said Brian Lauerty replyed that they were woodcarnescarens & vpon [ ] their owne ofence And this examinant farther saith that at the time of his being in prison as aforesaid he heard the said Brian O Lauerty make his boasts how that he with the said Neal Turlogh McGagherty with others in his company one night come suddenly vpon a fort which had ben built by the Generall Maior Munro wherein some fore about sixteen men were which were all kild by the said Brian O Lauerty And further saith not
