The examinaccione of Roger Gill taken this 28th day of Aprill 1653
Who beinge sworne sayeth that Aweeke before Candelmas at the begininge of this Rebelion in this Country his ffather and Mother then livinge in there dwellinge house within the Towne Lande of Ballymacveagh within Amile from of the Towne of Glanarme in the <A> County of Antrym beinge then in ffeare of there Lives by Resone that the Scotsmen Livinge there abouts whoe did dayly & Nightly ffollowe ande persue after them And the Rest of the Irish people that did Inhabitt those partes, to Take away both there lives and goods and this exameneds ffather Mother and ffamelly wear fforsed to leaue there saide dwelling house and to betake themselves into ffleight to goe and sellter themselves for safty of their Lives with there famally, To lye in awoode neer there saide dwellinge house aboute A Muskett shott, distants, One Thomas Boyde with seuerall others in his Company beinge reydinge one horses persuinge after this exameneds ffather Mother and others as aforesaide, This examenends ffather beinge then in the foresaide woode sicke in An Ague Amonge the Tickes of the bushes And alsoe this exameneds sister beinge Likewise sicke & Lyinge in Another place or bush, The saide Thomas Boyde with his Company happened to Meet with this exameneds mother in the foresaid woode shee waythinge and Attendinge one her saide husband: and daug{hter} which weare sicke and helpinge to relive the Rest of her ffamely: & poor Children This examened perceavinge them Cominge Neere the place where, his saide Mother was, hee beinge a Litle destant from her did hide himso vnder a bush, harde by his saide Mother, And the sa{ide} Thomas Amongest the Rest did Alight from of his horse having a drawen sworde, in his hande, And Rann to this examenat saide Moth{} and at the first strocke cut of her nose & did cut her to the Teeth and gaue her seuerall other woundes: And the saide Thom{as} perceavinge that the blood Issued much from this examenats Mother after that hee hade soe wounded her, as aforesaide, did stripe her and Take from her a payer of whitt plades and did shoulder the saide plad{ } and laye them one his sadle and wente away after the rest of his Company they beinge a litle way from the place where this examenent{s mother}laye wounded, And havinge showen the rest of the company the foresaide plads desired one of them to Returne backe wher this examaments Mother Laye to knowe whither the foresaide wooman w{as} deade or Not, And if shee hade any Liffe in her hee woulde Returne backe agayne and put her our of here payne Lest shee houlde aney way Recover and Reveale that hee was the Man that did her Murder And that hade done the foresaide ffacte, And at the Return of the party so sente by him the saide Thomas, made answer th{} the saide wooman was slayne and deade, yett it pleased gods god that shee lived after ffor the space of seaven or Eight dayes

<D> And shee did reveale to her Nightbours and this examente that the saide Thomas Boyde was the Man that hade soe crully wounded her, as aforesaide, And this examinant further deposeth that hee was An eye wittnes to the saide passadges and proceedinge as aforesaide beinge then present and that Noe other persone had any Acte in the killinge of his saide Mother as aforesaide but the saide Thomas Boyde And More sayeth not
